Weekend away in nature at Springlands Farm Self Catering Cottages

Springlands Farm Self Catering Cottages

When searching for an establishment within close proximity to Port Elizabeth – but as close to nature as humanly possible – I was so pleased to hear about Springlands Farm Self Catering Cottages. I am always appreciative of a weekend away or time in nature – and Springlands Farm Self Catering Cottages ticked all the boxes!

We all know we need a good break every now and again – but to try and find the time to actually commit to this “down time” is never as easy as it actually should be. Excited about the opportunity to take a much needed break – I contacted Heidi, the owner of Springlands, to check which weekends she may have available for us.

Leisurely days in nature is what time spent at Springlands Farm Self Catering Cottages is about…

Springlands Farm itself is situated just outside of Patensie, about 100km west of Port Elizabeth, in an area lovingly named, and known to the locals as Bean se Bos. Bordering on the Stinkhout Reserve and Baviaans Kloof, this tranquil Valley showcases diverse ecosystems, reminiscent of the Knysna forest and some areas the Karoo. The bird life is beyond amazing due to this ecosystem – the area is literally the birding enthusiasts paradise.

For this particular stay – we opted for the Mountain Cottage. A 6-sleeper, self catering wooden cabin, perfectly nestled at the foot of the mountains. Absolute pure bliss!

I do not think we could have gotten any closer to nature if we tried! The Mountain Cottage is rustic, with a farm styled décor and setting – exceptionally comfortable. Heidi has added some very homely finishing touches throughout the cabin – and ensured that all basics requirements are catered for.

The true draw card for me was that once you enter onto the property – there is no cell phone reception! You can however access the WiFi at the stables on the main farm should it be necessary.

Off the grid for a few days to totally disconnect from the world, but completely reconnect with what is important. Enjoying a few days of board games, time nestled around the fire place, actually talking to one another and exploring the many hiking trails on offer.

Horse trail rides are also available on request. I would suggest that, should you wish to book a ride, make prior arrangements – as well as note that all rides are weather dependent. Personally, we booked a ride on our second day and I can highly recommend it to all guests, it is a great way to explore this incredible area. We enjoyed it thoroughly. Heidi is also very knowledgeable, which really added so much value to this experience.

On our day of departure, I did not want to leave and already have started planning our next visit to Springlands Farm Self Catering Cottage.

I can not wait to visit again! A must mention is that the cottages are pet friendly to well mannered, well socialised, house trained, non-aggressive pets of all sizes and shapes. Heidi does mention to guests to please bring all your pets necessities: eg. Beds, towels, bowls etc.

High clearance vehicles advisable – but not essential. Check in time : 14:00 Check out time : 11:00. Early check in / Late check out can be pre-arranged – fees apply.
